MONTENEGRO 5 DAYS

M O N T E N E G R O
Montenegro is a magical corner of the Mediterranean in which, in a small space, as in a geography book, there is almost all the splendor of natural beauty found.
With only 650,000 inhabitants in an area of 13,500 km2, it is one of the smallest European countries – with a long tradition, a confluence of different cultural and religious influences, and lies on the border between East and West.
Here, in the most beautiful way possible, the meeting of extreme differences takes place continuously.
Come enjoy the warm and transparent Adriatic Sea, sandy beaches, fairytale valleys, rainforests, a network of mountain ranges over 2,000 meters high. The country also has 40 lakes, clear rivers, and deep and mysterious canyons.
Old towns, fortresses, temples, archeological sites and museums, detail a long history in which, for centuries, cultures and civilizations have often mixed, lived, and survived together.
Montenegro – a God-given space for rest and relaxation, research and meetings…
Everything is possible here. You can be a top a mountain in the morning, at a lake by noon, enjoy the Adriatic coast by dusk.

The winding road then leads to the village of Njeguši – cradle of prince-bishops and rulers from the Petrović dynasty. Tasting of typical national specialties: Njeguši cheese and dry-cured ham with homemade bread and homemade wine or mead.
Driving along the famous serpentines, from the where you can see a spectacular view of the Bay of Kotor - the only fjord in the Mediterranean. The journey continues to Perast, a city with a unique example of baroque construction on the Adriatic coast. It is full of remains of old noble palaces, which only hint at 4 the former splendor and wealth. The City Museum is located in one of the palaces, called the Bujević Palace. At one time, Perast was a naval training center where Russian sailors also came to learn seafaring skills. This is why this place is considered the cradle of the Russian fleet. Before arriving in Perast there are two islets, one natural, the other artificial: Gospa od Škrpjela and St. George. These two islands represent an exceptional tourist attraction.
Departure by boat to the island of Our lady of the Rocks (Gospa od Škrpjela), was built with the unconditional support of the residents of Perast and other places in the bay of Boka. This architechural feat is the result of a centuries-old mixture of legend and tradition. A real treasure is the exceptionally embroidered tapistry that Jacinta Kunic-Mijovic made, centuries ago, by waving her hair during 25 years while she waited for her husband to come back from his seafaring voyage. There, one can see the change in color of her hair, where the strands changed from gold to silver.
At the end of the day visiting the old town Kotor, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. UNESCO’s protection is a recognition of the cultural heritage of this town, comprising the ensemble of town churches, palaces and buildings, special for their architectural style and unique harmony with the environment. The walls of Kotor, including St John’s Fortress, have been preserved as a landmark of international importance. The 4.5 km long walls protected the town from enemies and pirates. St. Tryphon’s Cathedral is the most recognisable building in all of coastal Montenegro and is a trademark of Kotor. Passing by the palaces of noble families, you will feel the spirit of Venetian culture and architecture.
In the evening, return to the hotel and have free time to walk around the city.

At the very entrance to the new part of the city, you can see the Orthodox Cathedral of St. John Vladimir from the 21st century. The temple is dominated by 7 large crosses. The central gilded cross 4.60 meters high, weighing 800 kg, with the highest height of 40 m, is unique in Europe and in the world. The cross is unique and modeled after the famous Vladimir's cross, the greatest relic of Bar from ancient times, a symbol of faith, love and hope. One of the most beautiful squares in Montenegro is arranged around the temple.
Bar – a modern city with wide boulevards, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation. Numerous cultural and historical monuments testify to the stormy history of this city, the most important of which is the Old Town of Bar, 4 km from the sea coast.
Tour of the Old Town of Bar - the largest urban agglomeration in ruins in Montenegro. It is over 2500 years old. It is the bearer of turbulent history and medieval civilizations that left part of their culture here: Venetians, Byzantines, Romans, Sovenians, Turks. The city still contains the remains of numerous churches of different styles from different eras. That is why it is rightly said that the region it is a synthesis of the Mediterranean and the Orient. Unlike other towns on the coast, Stari Bar is about 4 km from the coast. It lies on a steep, inaccessible cliff on three sides, at the foot of Mount Rumija. Although the city is now destroyed, it is still one of the most visited cultural and historical sites in Montenegro.
The location of Stari Bar offers visitors the opportunity to experience the panorama of green fields that surround Bar, the new part of the city, the port, the open sea and the massif of the Rumija mountain from the walls of the old ramparts. Then a walk along the old cobblestone street, which we often call "our Montmartre", with traditional restaurants and souvenir shops...
Tour of the Old Olive Tree at Mirovica is a natural monument which has been protected by law since 1963. It is 2,242 years old and is considered to be the oldest tree in Europe. The trunk is 10 metres wide. According to legend, meetings of feuding families used to be held around the olive tree and this is where they used to make up, which is why this place is still called Mirovica (the place of peace).
Departure to the shores of Lake Skadar and Virpazar – a town on three bridges, from where we depart by boat for an unforgettable trip on the lake. Lake Skadar is one of those places that leave you breathless. Lake Skadar is the largest lake in the Balkans. Since 1983, the lake has been a National Park. It is home to more than 52 fish species (carp, bleak, eel…) and 280 bird species, the largest wetland bird reservation in Europe, and the last habitat of the pelican, with many blooming white and yellow water lilies. The many island lakes are home to old fortresses and medieval monasteries, and the fishing villages are hidden in protected coves. These are typical winegrowing villages where every household grows the Vranac grape variety and makes the famous Crmnica wine. Grmožur Fortress is also known as “Montenegrin Alcatraz.”. Today, it is home to cormorants and pelicans.
Swimming and lunch are possible at a fairytale place - the beach, which can only be reached by boat.
