CETINJE - NJEGUŠI - PERAST - OUR LADY OF THE ROCKS - KOTOR

A tour of Montenegro is a unique opportunity to get to know the culture, tradition, and natural beauty of both urban and rural areas of Montenegro.

After breakfast, we leave for Cetinje, the old capital of Montenegro, the place where the spirit and tradition of the Montenegrin people is best preserved. Many European countries had their embassies in this little town. Every house on the main square reveals a part of Montenegrin history. A tour of the legacy of the famous Petrović dynasty, which ruled for more than 200 years. The Castle of King Nikola will allow you to get to know the life of the Petrović royal family. Cetinje Monastery keeps relics of Saint Peter of Cetinje, right hand of John the Baptist and a particle of the True Cross.

During your free time, we recommend that you visit another famous relic - the icon of the Virgin Filermosa.

The winding road then leads to the village of Njeguši – cradle of prince-bishops and rulers from the Petrović dynasty. Tasting of typical national specialties: Njeguši cheese and dry-cured ham with homemade bread and homemade wine or mead.

Driving along the famous serpentines, from the where you can see a spectacular view of the Bay of Kotor - the only fjord in the Mediterranean. The journey continues to Perast, a city with a unique example of baroque construction on the Adriatic coast. It is full of  remains of old noble palaces, which only hint at the former splendor and wealth. The City Museum is located in one of the palaces, called the Bujević Palace. At one time, Perast was a naval training center where Russian sailors also came to learn seafaring skills. This is why this place is considered the cradle of the Russian fleet. Before arriving in Perast there are two islets, one natural, the other artificial: Gospa od Škrpjela and St. George. These two islands represent an exceptional tourist attraction.

Departure by boat to the island of Our lady of the Rocks (Gospa od Škrpjela), was built with the unconditional support of the residents of Perast and other places in the bay of Boka. This architectural feat is the result of a centuries-old mixture of legend and tradition. A real treasure is the exceptionally embroidered tapestry that Jacinta Kunic-Mijovic made, centuries ago, by waving her hair during 25 years while she waited for her husband to come back from his seafaring voyage. There, one can see the change in color of her hair, where the strands changed from gold to silver.

At the end of the day visiting the old town Kotor, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. UNESCO’s protection is a recognition of the cultural heritage of this town, comprising the ensemble of town churches, palaces and buildings, special for their architectural style and unique harmony with the environment. The walls of Kotor, including St John’s Fortress, have been preserved as a landmark of international importance. The 4.5 km long walls protected the town from enemies and pirates. St. Tryphon’s Cathedral is the most recognizable building in all of coastal Montenegro and is a trademark of Kotor. Passing by the palaces of noble families, you will feel the spirit of Venetian culture and architecture.

In the evening, return to the hotel and have free time to walk around the city.
